Interior ballast of coast guard vessel stripped with Greensolv 273C
Coating System & Substrate
- Catalyzed coal tar coating.
- Average Thickness : 7 mils.
- Substrate : steel.
Reason for stripping
- Ballast needs a complete strip and repaint and no sandblast was allowed.
Application
- Total of 560 kg (3 drums) of Greensolv 273C were used in 2 to 3 applications to strip an area of 600 m2 (6 500 ft2).
- Greensolv 273C was sprayed on the surface to be stripped with an airless pump.
- Temperature : 15-20°C (59-68°F).
Results
- The results were very good, it took a couple of weeks to complete the whole stripping procedure.
- Details, such as welded joints and corners were much harder to strip and needed some mechanical abrasion (grinder and cup wheel).
Conclusion
- Excellent alternative to sandblasting.
- Does not create rust on the steel substrate.
